About Us

Sandra Moran rode her motorbike around Australia, stopping at as many towns as possible talking about the loss of her son Jaie to suicide (April 2014) as well as working to remove the stigma of depression and discuss solutions and resources that can help others within our community.  This tour was cut short due to a motorcycle accident however Sandra continues her work providing essential information and support to those that need it most.

Officially Jaie's Journey Inc is registered as a 'Not for Profit' organisation IA55787.  Jaies Journey Inc has been created to help communities and society, to see the reality of those of us left behind, when we lose someone to suicide.  We are raising awareness of depression and other related mental health illnesses. This is to help remove the stigma and mystery surrounding mental health illnesses and also the taboo subject of suicide. We are here also to provide support, whenever possible, for those bereaved by suicide of a loved one.

No one is judging you if you are considering harming yourself. We simply wish to show you that many people care. Many people want to help to work through this with you, so please let yourself be helped. Our Links page on this site has links to various organisations based around Australia and the world, as well as links to articles and other organisations which may provide you helpful information.

In Australia suicide takes more than the amount of lives each year, which skin cancer and the national road toll combined equal to.   The ABS figures from 2013 state that suicide is the leading cause of premature death in Australia for ages 15yrs-44yrs.  2014 figures, saw 2864 lives lost to suicide and 75% of those who die by suicide are males.  The Royal Flying Doctors Service has released figures that males in remote areas have a 1.8% higher risk of suicide and in very remote areas it goes up 2.9% higher risk, than their counterparts who live in major populated areas.

My son Jaie, is so much more than those last few minutes and hours, just prior to his death. And if by creating this organisation, enables us to help prevent just one more death by suicide, then that is all we can hope for.  We are based in Queensland Australia but we share relevant links of other international support organisations, as we are well aware that people everywhere need help.
